Penn Valley History

The tranquil community of Penn Valley was one of the first settlements in the area during the California gold rush.  The rich soil of Penn Valley's rolling hills and grasslands also attracted farmers and ranchers.  Soon known as the “Pantry of the Northern Mines,” Penn Valley supplied fresh fruit, vegetables and meat to the mines in the surrounding Sierras.

While the community has steadily grown to a population of 12,000, Penn Valley proudly maintains its "small town" character. The gated subdivision of Lake Wildwood is also in Penn Valley.
